Joint Pain

Joint pain can best be described as discomfort that affects one or more hinge points (joints) of the body, commonly in elbows, shoulders, hands and knuckles, hips, spine, knees, ankles, and feet. Joint pain can be very common, depending on age and activity levels. However, when you could describe joint pain as burning, throbbing, or a grinding/grating sensation, it is likely something more serious.

As you age, commonly after the age of 45, osteoarthritis can become a factor in chronic joint pain. Osteoarthritis is the breakdown of the cartilage (protection between bones). This can be attributed to “wear and tear” or possible disease/disorder. Other common causes of joint pain can be rheumatoid arthritis, gout, bursitis, and tendinitis. Changes in lifestyle can be prescribed to improve the discomfort of chronic joint pain but medications (topical and oral) may be needed.
